One of the most important German authors of the second half of the 20th century, Uwe Johnson lived in Friedenau, in the nearby Niedstraße and Stierstraße, and always came back to this house – at the time the Hotel Hospiz Friedenau – during the decade he spent in England, at Sheerness-on-Sea (1974-84). His friends and colleagues were still in Berlin and he felt happy here (‘my real birthplace is Friedenau,’ 11. March 1981) We can follow his stays here in his letters and in the lists of the hotel’s clients. The reception room has been named after this great author and cultural and literary events are held here regularly: lectures, literary teas, discussions.

This room, the heart of the hotel, is furnished in the Biedermeier style with fine historic furniture. Through the tall windows there is a beautiful view of the garden with its roses, laburnum and rhododendron. Here you can have breakfast, read, relax.

The Uwe Johnson Room can be hired for family parties, conferences and congresses. Information at the reception desk.
